6 children and 9 others dead as Sri Lankan troops raid ISIS suicide vest factory following Easter Sunday attacks
At least 15 people have died as explosions went off when Sri Lankan police raided a “suicide vest factory” last night.
According to police, 3 men blew themselves up during a shoot out with security operatives at a jihadist hide-out near the eastern town of Kalmunai.
The bombs and gunfire killed 3 women and 6 children, along with another three suspected jihadists outside.
The raid at the ISIS safe house and the resulting shootout took place on Friday, April 26, in Sainthamaruthu, 200 miles from Colombo where hundreds of people were killed in luxury hotels and churches on Easter Sunday.
Security forces who raided the ISIS safe house on Friday evening recovered 150 sticks of explosive gelignite, 100,000 ball bearings, ISIS uniforms and an ISIS flag, as well as a drone camera.
By Saturday morning, a search operation was carried out and they discovered the bodies of those who died in the bomb explosion and gunfire.
In photos from the scene, a Sri Lankan girl is seen as she’s rushed to hospital after she was found at the site of the explosion and gunbattle in Kalmunai.
