Babysitter arrested after 3-month-old bay slipped under bathwater when she slept off while holding him
A babysitter has been arrested after the 3-month-old baby boy in her care slid under bathwater when she fell asleep while holding him.
Ashley Zamora, 39, took prescription drugs while caring for an infant at a home in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on March 6. She eventually slept off and it almost cost the child’s life.
Deputies from Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene in the early hours of the morning and found the baby breathing but unresponsive.
A spokesman explained: “During questioning Zamora advised she took prescription medication before taking a bath.
“Due to the totality of the circumstances surrounding the incident detectives believe Zamora was under the influence; therefore, she was transported to a local hospital to have her blood drawn for a toxicology report.”
Afterwards, the baby was airlifted to a hospital, where his condition has been described as stable.
Zamora was charged with cruelty to a juvenile and booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center.
