Boko Haram: Death toll in Borno funeral attack rises to 65
The number of victims killed in an attack launched by Boko Haram insurgents at a funeral in Maiduguri the capital of Borno State on Saturday July 27, has risen to 65.
LIB reported earlier that the leader of the local anti-Boko Haram militia, Bunu Bukar Mustapha, revealed that the attackers rode into the village on three motorbikes and opened fire on a group of men as they walked back from a funeral in Nganzai district near the state capital Maiduguri.
“It is 65 people dead and 10 injured,” local government chairman Muhammed Bulama said while confirming the incident. According to Bulama, 20 people died in the initial attack at a funeral gathering. Others were killed as they tried to chase after the Boko Haram insurgents.
