California man arrested for shooting a 10-month-old in the head because her mother rejected him at a party
A 10-month old girl is in critical condition after being shot in the head by a 23-year-old man because the child’s mother rejected him at a party.
According to the LA Times, 23-year-old Marcos Antonio Echartea was arrested Sunday in Fresno, California on suspicion of three counts of attempted murder after police say he shot into a car where baby Fayth, her mother, and a male friend were sitting.
Further investigation revealed that Marcos met Fayth’s mother, 18-year-old Deziree Menagh, a week ago at a gathering. Police say Marcos tried to hold Deziree’s hand, and when she pulled away, he was offended.
According to police, Marcos then tried to force Deziree to sit on his lap. She pulled away again and left the party with a friend. While leaving, they stopped at a nearby traffic light and Deziree reportedly saw Marcos walking toward the vehicle. He allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired three times into the driver’s side window. Fayth was struck by a bullet in the side of her head.
Baby Fayth Percy is reportedly in critical but stable condition. She had surgey Sunday to remove bullet fragments from her head, according to Fresno Police Chief Jerry dyer.
Dyer said: “We’re very fortunate that she’s alive. It tears my heart up to see a baby of that age laying in the hospital.”
Police have also identified Marcos as a suspect in another shooting related to a female. He reportedly fired several shots into a home belonging to his ex-girlfriend’s new partner on May 27.
He is now facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder and firing into an occupied dwelling.
