Chants of ‘death to America’ ‘death to Israel’ as crowd gather in Baghdad to mourn military leaders killed by US airstrike (Video)
Emotional scenes are playing out on the streets of Baghdad Saturday morning, as crowds of protesters chanting Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel’ gathered for the funeral procession of Iranian military commanders killed by US Military strikes on Friday morning,
On Friday around 1a.m, the United states Military confirmed that the General commander of Iran’s Quds Force, Qasem Soleimani was killed in a United States drone strike ordered by President Donald Trump.
Qasem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force unit, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of the Iran-backed Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), were among those killed in the US drone attack at Baghdad International Airport just after they alighted from their plane that had just landed in Iraq.
The Iraqis – currently marching through Baghdad as part of a funeral procession for Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and Qasem Soleimani as Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani visited the family of Qasem Soleimani, barely a day after saying Iran would take revenge for the killing of Soleimani- are carrying anti-American placards and singing Anti- American slogans according to reports by CNN.
The burial procession began at the Imam Kadhim shrine in Baghdad, one of the most revered sites in Shia Islam as mourners marched in the streets alongside militia vehicles in a solemn procession while helicopters hope the sky.
The Burial procession will be held in the holy Shia cities of Karbala and Najaf, before Suleimani’s remains are returned to Iran on Sunday morning according to Iranian media officials.
Iran’s ambassador to the UN said on Saturday that there will surely be revenge
“There will be harsh revenge,” Majid Takht Ravanchi told CNN.
“The time, the place, will be decided by Iran.”
