Social media is a threat to a peaceful 2019 elections- former Liberian president, Amos Sawyer says
A former President of Liberia, Prof Amos Sawyer, has raised concerns over the use of social media in inciting violence during the 2019 elections.
The former Liberian president said this at an ongoing one-day peace conference by the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, tagged ‘Peaceful Elections and National Development,’ held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja today February 7th.
“Social media poses significant challenges and increases the risk of incitement and conflict. It requires robust countermeasures by civil organisations and peace committee. The role of the media, though sometimes annoying, is vital and should be protected.” he said
