Stepdad of missing 4-year-old girl ‘confesses to killing her by accident’
The stepfather of a four-year-old girl who went missing one month ago has confessed to accidentally killing her.
The suspect, Derion Vence allegedly made his confession on Friday to Quanell X, a community activist who was representing the victim, Maleah Davis‘ mother. He confessed he killed Maleah before dumping her body in Arkansas.
Quanell X also revealed that a plane will fly from Houston, Texas, where Maleah vanished, to the spot in Arkansas where Vence allegedly said he dumped her body.
‘What happened to Maleah was an accident. He says it was an accident. And he confessed to me where he dumped her body.
‘He was very specific with the amount of distance and time. When I was able to leave and look it up on my phone, he was to the point on the distance and time.
He said that he pulled over in Arkansas, got out of the car, walked to the side of the road, and dumped the body off the road,’ Quanell told The Houston Chronicle.
He said he had met with the directorate of Equusearch, which works with the police in missing persons cases, to find her.
‘I think it’s true enough that I have an airplane lined up at 3 p.m. to fly a detective, and several officers to go up there and go ahead and start the search.’
The alleged confession comes nearly a month after Vence reported Maleah missing on May 4.
The little girl was last seen alive following Vence into their home in Houston on April 30. He reported her missing on May 4, and said she had been abducted by three men the day before while he drove to pick up Maleah’s mother Brittany Bowens‘ from George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Bowens claims to have been attending her father’s funeral in Massachusetts around the time her daughter vanished.
Vence claimed he was knocked out by Maleah’s abductors, and woke up 24 hours later in a field. He also claimed that his family’s silver Nissan Maxima was stolen.
Police later found traces of blood linked to Maleah in his home, sparking fears he killed and dismembered the youngster. The forensic evidence was used to arrest Vence and hold him in jail on suspicion of tampering with a corpse.
Quanell X, also speculated that Vence may have killed Maleah to get revenge on Bowens for ending their engagement.
