Thomas Tuchel set to hold crisis talks with Romelu Lukaku today after the striker said he was ‘unhappy’ at Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel will hold crisis talks with Romelu Lukaku today after the Chelsea boss axed the club’s record-signing for Sunday’s 2 – 2 draw against Liverpool.

Lukaku was completely omitted from the game over his unauthorized interview with Sky Sport Italy in which he confessed to being unhappy at Chelsea.

Tuchel will now have a meeting with his striker during which he will decide whether he is recalled for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup crunch against Tottenham.

When asked about the summit, Tuchel said: ‘First we need to evaluate the situation, not listen to media or pressure, understand what he said and why he said it.

‘Then we will take the decision if he is good to go for Wednesday.’

Following the game at Stamford Bridge that saw Chelsea share the spoils with Liverpool, former Blues striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was adamant Lukaku needed to find a way back into the side.

‘There has to be a way back as he’s an asset at the club,’ Hasselbaink said on Sky Sports.

‘They’ve spent money, I don’t see a club giving them the same money back.

‘So it’s an investment and you need to find a way back with Lukaku and he has to understand that these are the terms and way forward.

‘You’ve come in as the main striker but you need to show you’re the main striker and show you’re in line with all the others.’

Hasselbaink’s co-pundit Graeme Souness said Lukaku needed to apologise ‘to everybody in the stadium’ on Sunday.

‘Firstly to his manager and his team-mates,’ he added. ‘To everyone else at Chelsea and all the supporters.

‘He needs to hold his hands up and say for whatever reason I wasn’t in the right place and made a mistake. I apologise unreservedly.

‘He’s lit a fire and one only he can put out. He’s to find a way of saying sorry I got it wrong.’
