Zimbabwean becomes first black woman ever to be crowned Miss London
A Zimbabwean born woman has become the first ever black woman to be crowned Miss London.
24-year-old Vimbai Chapungu, a Masters student at a top university in London, was crowned Miss London 2019.
She recently took part in the Miss England Final held in Newcastle where the contestants were put through different rounds of tests, including a Sports Round and Talent Round, an eco-wear round and a general knowledge quiz.
Vimbai qualified as one of the 50 finalists out of 20,000 women who entered this year’s competition.The winner was Bhasha Mukherjee, a 23-year-old junior doctor who will now go on to compete at Miss World held in London on Dec. 14, 2019.
During the Miss England finals, Vimbai wore her natural hair to highlight the beauty of African hair. Her Masters thesis is about the Natural Hair Movement.
