Senator Nnaji empowers his constituents…… Presents account of Stewardship
It was a day of joy and fulfillment for the people of Enugu-East Senatorial District as their senator, Gilbert Nnaji presented poverty alleviation packages to the deserving constituents. The items included (A) 210 tricycles, (B)120 deep freezers, (C)100 power-generating sets, ( D) 2 units of 500KVA and 5 units of 300 KVA transformers, (E)10 motorized wheel chairs and (F)undisclosed amount of monies to 60 widows. Timber Shade and Kenyatta markets were presented each with 500 KVA transformers while Nomeh and Nkereffi communities received 300KVA transformers.
The event which attended by the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and other national assembly members from the state including the deputy governor, Cecilia Ezeilo, speaker Edward Ubosi and some members of the state assembly, council chairmen, traditional rulers, party men and women as well as the clergy.
However, emotions were let loose when some widows and physically-challenged persons broke down into tears of joy as they received the donations from the senator.
The senator who had earlier remarked that “as you all know, this event was scheduled to take place long before now. But for certain unfortunate circumstances, it was delayed until today. I therefore thank you dearly for your understanding and patience. God understands every situation and His time is the best” equally added that “what a lawmaker is able to achieve or bring home towards constituency development is determined by the general policies and programmes of the government of the day.
For instance during the PDP-federal government, Economic Transformation and Expansion Through ICT was the major policy focus. I took due advantage of that to ensure that Enugu-East Senatorial District is effectively connected and empowered towards knowledge-based economy, wealth-creation and employment generation.
So while I admit that we may not have reached our desired destination I am still committed to my social contract with you, my dear people. I am still being inspired to invest in our land. And that is why in spite of poor implementation of budgets and general economic challenges facing the country, we can look around and thank God for the gradual and silent transformations going on across the senatorial district. Some of them are attached herewith as I do not wish to hold you down with details. But with respect to the reason of our gathering here today, which is part of my 2018 Constituency Outreach Programme, I have provided these economic empowerment items to encourage some of our people including the transformers to make life meaningful in some communities across the district. I have also invited the fore-most auto manufacturing company east of the Niger, ANAMMCO, to demonstrate the various skills acquisition packages to enable our young people make informed choices towards economic independence and security.
Nnaji further announced that “this is the first phase of this empowerment project. The next phase is being packaged even as we are gathered here. We shall not stop giving back to the society especially the faithful”.
The crowd that graced the occasion were unanimous in their description of Senator Nnaji’s show of love kind gesture as unprecedented and reassuring.
The senator specially commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the enabling environment he provided which facilitated some of the achievements recorded so far. According to Nnaji, “in keeping faith with his electoral promises, he has fundamentally changed the narratives and raised the bar of governance and service delivery in the state.
His people-oriented, all-inclusive and responsive leadership has indeed created a new socio-political order where everyone and every part truly have sense of belonging. The prevailing peace, political tolerance and bi-partisan disposition that define his government are quite reassuring that of a truth, there can be dividends of democracy without necessarily deploying state resources to suppressing dissenting voices.
He has unified the leaders and elders of the state such that political parties today in the state merely exist on books and access to better life is no longer determined by political considerations or other undemocratic sentiments.
His diligent commitment to the good and benefit of the masses instead of the priviledged few is what indeed distinguished him as a right honourable. Worthy of note is the uncommon harmony existing in the state, especially between his administration and the federal lawmakers from the state which indeed is the first of its kind in the history of the state.
Of course, nobody can talk about infrastructural development and maintenance of those built by predecessors in the entire South Eastern Nigeria at least without mentioning Enugu state first”.
