Gunman kills 10 people including police officer at a grocery store in Colorado

Ten people, including a police officer, were killed after a gunman opened fire in a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado, on  Monday, March 22. 


The incident began at about 14:30 local time when the suspect entered the supermarket and began firing.

Police officers, who rushed to the scene got involved in a gunfight and were being fired at with multiple rounds through at least 3:21 p.m. local time.

Shoppers and employees had to dive for cover or run to safety during the shooting.

The attack in Boulder ended with police detaining an injured suspect at the King Soopers market, where police said there was no ongoing threat to the public.

Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold did not share any information on his identity, the type of weapon used or any possible motive.

“We will work around the clock to get this accomplished,” she said, adding that such a complex investigation will take at least five days to complete.

Chief Maris also identified the slain officer as 51-year-old Eric Talley, who had been with the department since 2010. 


Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said Talley’s life was “cut much too short,” and said a “painstaking investigation is already underway.”
